I tried to count the ways

That I love you in the stars

This project took me days

And I'm still not very far

Some stars burned brightly

Before falling to the ground

Just then I thought of how

You make me feel when you're around

I never thought I could love

But you slowly showed me how

Back then I couldn't do

Things that I can now

I love your color eyes

Your grin; your skin

I love the way you glare

When you know I let you win

I love the way your hair

Gets tangled in the wind

Its great how we relate

Because I know where you've been

I love how you're so kind

I love the way you think

I love your sex appeal

Songbirds"Songbirds"

In the summer I grow rather fond

Of watching the swans hover over sea

And often wonder what it would be

Like if they could be like me.

Rather, I wonder if I could grow wings

And soar above the stores and malls

Gliding between buildings

And downtown city hall.

To be like a bird

To have such freedom

Does that sound absurd

To fly towards a kingdom?

I'd fly south for the winter

Avoiding the cold in the city

Because snow stings like splinters

Leaving marks not very pretty.

I'd leave colors in the sky

And into the burning sun

But not before I die

Or not to be outdone

I'd perform circles in the air

Spreading my wing

Mood Queen"Mood Queen"

She has this switch inside of her head

That signals love; then flickers red

Proceed with caution; handle with care

If she opens her mouth enter if you dare

There is this thing; its called a mind

Sometimes its there; sometimes its fine

But when she smiles you better prepare

To run for miles or tear out your hair

She punches doors; she scratches walls

She crawls along her floors in halls

Then she'll cry or laugh with glee

After destroying everything

In tragic cases where mood dissolves

She'll bury faces with no resolve

And leave no trace; no where to run

She'll hunt you down; she has a gun

She'll drive you nuts for

Shove Me"Shove Me"

A little bird often sings outside my window
Lonely as sin he made a nest above the snow
With his delicate singing I smile as wide as I can
Still it doesn't help me forget the terrible person I am
Songs so soft and pleasant to the ear
Songs that would wash away anyone's fears
Songs as beautiful as the evening rain
Songs that have hidden messages of peace contained
Yet vultures and crows feast on birds of his kind
Perhaps its fate our lives have intertwined
Because just when everything to this bird starts making sense
The eagles come and sweep away his self confidence
Yet a bird so strong still needs to learn to fly

For my first execution I had a fusion of thoughts

Circling wildly in my head like the thief who was caught

And rendered helpless like a cat locked in a cage

But I knew I'd be forced to turn the other page

I walked onto the firing range with robotic eyes

And a clear mind so that I could be blind

To what I was about to do to this criminal at hand

I'm just going along with my job description's plans

If it wasn't for him we wouldn't even be

In this situation but for now currently

I had to execute this felon for the crimes that he did

Or else he'd commit more in time God forbid

I gripped the gun's handle as tightly as I co

I Could"I Could"

I could travel as far as I can go

And never arrive to where I want

I could climb as high as the mountain's snow

And never completely reach the top

I could launch myself off a building

And somehow still survive

I could give into these feelings

Or look into your eyes

I could drown myself in a lake

And wash up along a coast

I could be stabbed with a stake

And live to talk and boast

I could drink myself to oblivion

And still never feel bliss

I could make a bold decision

And give you another kiss

I could try to right my wrongs

But some things can't be fixed

I could find where I belong

But your intentions are too mixed

Speak to me, my little flower
Dancing in the breeze
With your frail and fragile stem
You are braver than the trees
Bend for me, my faithful flower
Bend yourself at your knees
With your keen and natural instincts
You will survive the looming bees

Spread your petals as wide as you can
As your pollen starts to blow
To the oceans and their sands
And as far as they can go
Pollinate the others
With your warm and loving scent
Never fear the storm that's near
For I will circumvent

Live for me, my precious flower
I'll cover you from snow
With my rugged, worn-down hands
I will help you grow
Cry for me, my wounded flo

The bells are ringing by the old broken-down church
The crowd starts to assemble as the casket is in suspension
Nestled above the bells is a nest where hidden crows perch
The crows start to tremble for even they can feel the tension
The flicker of my cigar burns out as I throw it on the pavement
Walking into the church aside a crowd so depressed
My cigar rolls onto a stone slab of another soul's engravement
The crows have flown away for they have left their nest
And the body in the casket the priest has just blessed
And one by one the guests offer their best blessings
Into an eternal slumber this body will n

The Girl Next Door"The Girl Next Door"

There's this girl I know who lives next door

Maybe seventeen if not eighteen years old

And everyday I see her pray for change

Staring out her window with nothing new to say

She's perfect some suggest in every way

Beautiful looks, kind heart, excellent grades

But everyday she still prays for change

Because every night is always the same

She sits on her bed and plays guitar

While her parents for hours lecture her

She took a job after school to help pass days

But even that can't alleviate inborn pain

But what she was mad at, I couldn't tell

Often from my window I'd see her yell

Yet this perfect prom queen rule

Why couldn't you have taken me when

I was only at the age of ten?

I would have gone quietly I swear

Why couldn't you take me there?

Why couldn't you let me go

To the place I always wanted most?

Of cloud and brick and mile high

Like the castles in the sky

Why don't you listen when I talk?

Hearing the sounds of which you balk

Speaking alone is losing the appeal

But only I understand the way I feel

Where do fireflies get their glow?

Why stars fall I'll never know

My wishes sink faster than the stones

I tried to skip but can not atone

Why do bulbs portray such light

Like the sun powerful and bright?

To my only son do keep your head held high

And please may you treasure these words after I have died

My thoughts have become mysteries lost among the sea

People choose to behave as they please and so I shall let them be

But to you my only son who I shall never truly know

I speak to you through my writings before it is time to go

Your mother in all her beauty will raise you up so strong

And tell you stories about your father after I am gone

To my only son this one favor is all I ask

To preserve my writings forever is not a difficult task

It pains me to know that soon my life will end

With that I act so quickly to heal and ma

They tell me I am a human being

Alive and possessing a mind, heart, and feelings

So why no matter how hard I try

I can not help but feel dead inside?

Always wishing I could undo the past

Always wishing for my happiness to last

To this day my heart keeps beating

Despite the pain which is never receding

Every morning I contemplate what lies before me

Every night I contemplate death and all its glory

And as I stare into empty spaces

I see the images of familiar faces

If the answer to my pain is to leave them alone

And to vanish into the great unknown

Then in my grave I shall rest with stains

He slept with both eyes open

As the maiden near him cried

Under covers tightly woven

They knew tomorrow would be goodbye

He gave her all he had

But soon she'd have to go

Leaving him very sad

And possibly quite alone

She could have been pelted

By stones from those arms

Who would rather see her swelter

Under fire by a barn

Every time they tried

To torture her to death

This man would come around

And defend her one last breath

But now she would be cast

Into the morning's rising sun

I can't say I know for sure

What exactly she had done

Was she deemed a witch?

A fugitive? A traitor?

Was she the town's snitch

Nothing else matters when I hear those words

Those three little syllables to which I concur

Bridges could burn; mountains could fall

The earth could turn, stop, and then stall

Earthquakes could rip right through the sand

The sky could turn black and cover the land

The snow could blanket all under ice

The roads could split apart and then splice

But when you say "I love you" this I do know

All my worries seem to get up and go

Nothing else matters when I am with you

A feeling shared that I still never outgrew

I could lose all my passion; no one may listen

If no one is out there I may lose all my vision

I found a small, green bottle sitting on a table

Without any description, warning, or label

When suddenly curiosity took a hold of me

Maybe just one pill could cure my disease

So I popped one in my mouth and swallowed it whole

And washed it down with old coffee gone cold

And realized after fifteen minutes nothing had happened

For these white pills offered me bitter compassion

So one pill led to two which then turned into six

I figured I needed more to completely get my fix

Six led to ten which led to twenty instead

And that's when I felt this ringing inside of my head

Or maybe that was the ambulance singing a son

I once met a man at a bar not to far

From where his car broke apart by the shoreline's scars

He offered a cigar and a drink and so I sat for awhile

In the aisle next to a man who was drunk and hostile

The jukebox behind us was playing a wonderful tune

While this man ordered another glass of sterling blue moon

With darkened eyes I was terrified at first glance

But the stance he was in made me give him a second chance

He looked worn down, tired, and with good reason

His wife divorced him of course for obvious treason

He told me stories of his past that I could relate

And the later it became the more drinks on our slate

To all the hearts that left me behind

I dearly hope they are beating just fine

But me during late night hours I still hope and wonder

What power keeps me afloat from not going under

With cobwebs and other creatures of despair

My heart is such a lonely place to vacation there

And I fear I am becoming more and more content

With this melancholy feeling of just getting by with less

My heart is a vacant parking lot for those broken-down vehicles

Who do nothing but hope and rely on senseless miracles

I have tried to define myself through bloodshot eyes

That belonged to others of all shapes and sizes

Where did we go wrong and what did we fail to see?

You're the same as me but we fight on shoreline seas

How did you become so confused and engulfed in hate

For goodness sake were fools to take the bait

Our terrible struggles have intercepted our fate

Like a freight train waiting to ignite into flames

And this terrible battle is raging on to the point

Of grueling sounds of broken bones and dislocated joints

Far from the truth with guns blazing in hands

The frontline has been dismantled and now lay in sands

Littered with dead corpses and bleeding flesh

Meshed with screams from those who lay here threshed

Why old friends go

To and fro we'll never know

And why confused hearts sway

This I can only speculate

Life is a revolving door

Spinning in circles forevermore

For every person that leaves, a new person enters

A new life to teach and to show and to mentor

I still keep my door slightly ajar

Hoping that the breeze will blow in from afar

Though we lose so many people along the way

Faces that we never thought would turn up in vein

The revolving door continues to spin

And new people enter to again begin

But if you close that door that wind will never blow

Old friends can not return and you will never know

We are the broken and the cold

We are the bitter and the old

We are the neglected and the abused

We are the congested and the confused

We are the ones who have hid behind the tears

We are the ones who are open about our fears

Always humble but never loud

Always quite and sometimes proud

We are the first to have our feelings torn

From our minds as soon as we were born

We have dealt with every curveball life throws

We are the ones who continue to grow

We are different from you in the sense

That we are not surrounded by a white picket fence

We are the ones who save so many lives

We are the ones who never elect to hid

I'll always be second best in everybody's lives

Never important enough to remember but never fully cast aside

I'm dancing on a tightrope between Heaven and Hell

Falling below the largest tower and its corroded bells

I'll give up trying to act like someone I can not be

And persevering through a wilderness I can not see

If we can not respect each other for who we are

Then I suggest the train you take is one that will lead far

Away to a place where the sanity it takes

To endure your mistakes is one which is greater

Than the hearts made of gold that you so coldly stole

Away from those who were courageous and bold

"System Shock"

Quiet pitch; darkened scene

Is this what I always desired?

It is but a never-ending dream

It is now a life expired

If I could take a pill to not exist

I'd take two to guarantee success

Fall asleep letting dreams persist

And fade away into infinite regress

I'd pick and choose the dreams to see

Visiting memories one thousand times

Dissolving this pointless reality

Recreating scenarios within my mind

Sometimes I feel as if I

Dream up people and places who never

Existed in reality or have died

After I awake now and forever

Under a colorless sky and breeze

With no reflection to judge

I don't want to believe I'm empty

I don't want to face who I've become

You are the author of all that you are

You are the creator of your world

Birds, homes, hills, and trees

Every little boy and girl

The painted sky all black and blue

The fluffy clouds as white as snow

All mistakes you can undo

All the pain can come and go

What is there left to lose

That hasn't already been lost?

At the expense to pick and choose

Your soul is what costs

So perhaps its best to stay in coma

As it's the only shield we have left

Take in sights and dream's aroma

Of the memories you choose not to forget
