Carnival rides

Watching pandas on ice
To me there are several
Ways you are nice

Healthy sunflowers
A box full of kittens
This is the power
Of love that has smitten

Talking to old friends
Smores over heat

And no one competes

Old sand lots and teeter tots
Throwing rocks in a hop skotch box
Chasing girls and acting cool
This was recess during school

Climbing up those giant slides
Looking down a mile high
Protecting yourself as you slid
From cruel kids who often hid

Swing sets were my favorite part
Flying where the ground departs
To see who jumped the farthest still
Boys would love to show off skill

Dribbling balls and ankle races
Throwing discs and running races
Playing cards and making noise
Girls talked about the cutest boys

Sharing snacks and soda pop
Proud to have a new lunch box
Playing tag and hide and seek
Scaring friends t

You know that one friend
Who you cordially invite
Who eats all your food
And ruins the night?
That one friend you hate
But you can't resist
Because you're too nice
And so it persists.
You feel sorry
Because they're alone
And their sad excuse
Gets them in your home.
You know they're lying
But not to look rude
You keep them from crying
Not to ruin good moods

You know that one friend
Who slowly ruins your life?
They drag you down with them
Someone get a knife.
Because you want to cut ties
But just then they change
Or so they pretend to
Just so they stay.
Then you're stuck with them
But inside your head
You imagine them on fir

I don't know where I came from
I'm not talking about birth
I'm referring to those times
Before humans walked the earth

What were we before then?
Is there truth to claim?
Was it planned or random chance
I hold my name today?

What kind of power
Created the extremes?
The planets and their moons
And everything inbetween

Why do I come across
The people that I greet?
Is it just by pure luck
Or fate and destiny

Why do old friends exit?
Why do new friends enter?
Our lives are merry-go-rounds
And we're stuck at the center

Why my color eyes?
Why my color skin?
Why the life I lead?
Why these thoughts within?

I know I can never be someone who I'm not
But I hope I don't become someone you forgot
And all the years that pass; and all the years that fade
Please God will you make this pain go away?

My head is seeing colors; my eyes are seeing lines
I force myself to tell people I am always fine
Because if they took a journey deep inside my mind
They'd run away in fear; they would cower and hide

Why is it that I do the things I know?
Those ideas of self-abuse are ones I can't outgrow
And all the cuts and scars; all the knives and blades
Resemble all the failures resting in my name

Truth has become reality's biggest nightmare
Which always becomes buried by those in despair
For is it more noble to bite one's tongue until it turns red
Or let truth accumulate until his heart pumps out dread?
My intuition has led me to the truth many times before
Of which I have realized truth is not the cure
But what is the truth when every character has a story
Upon which each owner desires to claim truth's glory?
For it is comforting for those to retreat from their fears
Or deny truth exists and mask it with cheers
What ignorant mortals for them I take sorrow
For truth will target and haunt them tomorrow

I received a letter in the mail
Requesting my duties to assail
I took a breath and exhaled
It was time for life to turn a trail

I was fresh out of school
With not a clue what to do
Biting more than I could chew
I wanted to try something new

Before I knew it I enlisted
To fight others sick and twisted
To help others unassisted
With guns or hands tightly-fisted

Once at camp I shaved my head
Still holding thoughts of dread
That before I knew it I'd be dead
And the rose garden would be my bed

Watching faith as it flows
Into the path that I chose
There I went on my own
Roaming now into the vast unknown

Such a shame history repeats

If I exist to teach a lesson
Then that lesson is to overcome
Any hardship or desire
Always fight; never run
Never give in to others
Or let them think that they won
We are all capable of strength
We will never be outdone
If I exist to show you how
Listen to what I have to say
Always do the best you can
And one day you'll find your way
Some exist to show us reasons
Why things are the way they are
And though their time may be short
They'll help us uncover scars
Everyone has a purpose
Even if you don't know it yet
Your existence affects others
There are those I won't forget

I feel so numb; so far away
What happened to my arms and legs?
I can't hear noise; did I speak?
Why are muscles growing weak?

I'm losing balance; I've fallen down
The room is spinning round and round
Like tracing lines that have no end
I've tried but fallen down again

No one can hear me on the floor
Screaming into rooms next door
Hearing voices inside of me
They scream for help so silently

I blacked out but couldn't tell
Where's my heart or body cells
Waking up near cold white beds
Tears from eyes soon start to shed

What just happened?; I wonder why
Why people soon did cry
I think my mother finally spoke

She told him "no" many instances before
At first he listened, but not this time
Her words were sounds that he ignored
Because finally, he crossed the line

At first it seemed like every date
He was sweet and kind, holding doors
But even still at any rate
She found herself screaming on the bedroom floor

Because he heard, but didn't listen
Only hearing what he wanted to hear
And by pure hormones he was driven
While her pleas fell on deaf's ears

At first it started out innocent
Holding hands, kissing, locking lips
But soon it was no longer ambivalent
Once his hands swayed around her hips

I'm looking out the window
Through the blinds and the shades
Waiting patiently for your return

Meanwhile these shadows
Continue haunting me
They've tried to snatch my soul
And bury it in the deep

Because the sun has gone down
This room has grown black
But it seems darker than normal
I want the light to come back

In fact this room is so dark
My body is starting to tremble
The shadows are reaching out
My nerves may disassemble

I see her aesthetic reflection in every mirror
With the passing days the closer the attraction grows nearer
And yet with every word and every kindly letter
I always believe she deserves so much better
Why is there an attraction to the mess that is me?
Perhaps there are waters that run deeper than I can see
I resemble a fine-tuned piano without the keys
Or maybe a rusted violin without the strings
And while I always appear to be shredding at the seams
None of this matters in her mind apparently

I keep watching someone die every night
I can't even tell if I am alive

You wouldn't want to read
I'm a bed without a dorm

I know I can do this
I need to put the bottle down
I will clench both my fists
And keep my feet on the ground

I will try to fight myself
And not drink another day

But its just one more bottle
A shot would be even smaller

The trees look so much taller
My imagination runs haywire

Last night I received a warning sign

Indicting that I was going to die

By the hands of some power

Unknowingly to man or any eyes.

I couldn't even pretend

I didn't see what I saw

Because it was etched in my mind

Like a cat with his claws.

If you could imagine the way I felt

And how I crept beneath the sheets

Then you may be wondering

If it was all a dream.

I couldn't say for certain

Because the line between dreams and reality

Often get blurred once you fall asleep

And everything feels concrete.

But I do know I woke up in a cold sweat

And I bet my brain was working overtime

To come up with some sort of explana

Nothing else matters when I hear those words

Those three little syllables to which I concur

Bridges could burn; mountains could fall

The earth could turn, stop, and then stall

Earthquakes could rip right through the sand

The sky could turn black and cover the land

The snow could blanket all under ice

The roads could split apart and then splice

But when you say "I love you" this I do know

All my worries seem to get up and go

Nothing else matters when I am with you

A feeling shared that I still never outgrew

I could lose all my passion; no one may listen

If no one is out there I may lose all my vision

For my first execution I had a fusion of thoughts

Circling wildly in my head like the thief who was caught

And rendered helpless like a cat locked in a cage

But I knew I'd be forced to turn the other page

I walked onto the firing range with robotic eyes

And a clear mind so that I could be blind

To what I was about to do to this criminal at hand

I'm just going along with my job description's plans

If it wasn't for him we wouldn't even be

In this situation but for now currently

I had to execute this felon for the crimes that he did

Or else he'd commit more in time God forbid

"Start The Fire"

Close your eyes
And know I'm with you tonight
Can you feel the fire burn and crackle?
Can you feel my hands grip and grapple?

Keep them closed
As the fire warms our toes
As the fireflies engross
Our two bodies as they glow

Do not open them yet
Do not stop or push reset
Can you feel our bodies start to sweat?
Do you remember when our lips first met?

Look up towards the night
Towards the stars in the sky
The ones that match the bright
Stars in your eyes

Take my hand now
And to you I solemnly vow
To make your night as bright
As those fireflies and their lights

Keep holding my hand
Because I know where you've been
As the ashes burn to embers
Do you promise to remember?

Follow me inside
And let me be your guide
Step for step, stride for stride
Cuddle with me beneath moonlight

Lay with me under
Our tent as it thunders
Outside, but we're protected
Even fireflies aren't affected

Can you feel my heart?
It begs to not be apart
From your hand as you touch my skin
From your life as you let me within

And outside of our tent
The fireflies circumvent
Through the rain they keep their glow
As our fire grows and grows

And in the chilly morning
We can tell the story
Or at least a little clip
Of our covert camping trip
