There once was a crimson butterfly that landed on my fence
Why my fence of all fences to me made no sense
I had built this fence with such sharp edges nothing could land
But never the less here rests a crimson butterfly unplanned

This creature was beautiful and elusive; what a bright hue
The way it spread it's wings when the wind calmly blew
What an elegant display of perfection; truly a prize
One that would light up a room full of eyes

I wanted to catch this crimson butterfly and keep it in a jar
So it could shine in my house nightly like the stars
And I'd treat it with kindness, love, and affection

Sometimes I just have those days
Where everyone should stay away
Where the slightest thing you say
Will be the cause of me to break your face.

You better keep clear during these times
I promise to exhibit obvious signs.
I'll hiss and I'll growl; I'll snicker and snear.
Sarcasm is high only if you're near.

I meltdown like a volcano erupting
Onto a blanket of snow where the lava's disrupting
The particles' flow; they speed up and go
As the rage builds from my head to my toes.

Like my drunken mother or a call from my brother
Or a fight with a friend; God it never ends.

During the winter season on a night very cold
Where the frosty breeze sends shivers down your spine
I met a little boy on the road decades ago
Who looked at the time to be about eight or nine.

I saw him aimlessly wandering from afar
Dodging cars who simply passed him by.
Judging by his ripped clothes he had many scars
And a pair of the most pained blue eyes

Now normally I would have just continued driving.
Who the hell cares about this little ploy?
Its tough enough in this world surviving
Without striving to care about some little boy.

Dare to dream of ships and kings
Of rings of gold and pleasant things
Of skies of blue for miles long

He followed her hypnotizing scent
Around the corners he had to sneak
But he believed this was time well spent

I tried to write a poem
But my pen ran out of ink
The neighbors wrecked my home
I simply couldn't think
The bills continue to pile
The sun will not quit shining
These words have no style
Why do I keep trying?
The dog continues barking

I don't know what I'm saying
But words are coming out
While I just keep praying

I know I can never be someone who I'm not
But I hope I don't become someone you forgot
And all the years that pass; and all the years that fade
Please God will you make this pain go away?

My head is seeing colors; my eyes are seeing lines
I force myself to tell people I am always fine
Because if they took a journey deep inside my mind
They'd run away in fear; they would cower and hide

Why is it that I do the things I know?
Those ideas of self-abuse are ones I can't outgrow
And all the cuts and scars; all the knives and blades

I see her aesthetic reflection in every mirror
With the passing days the closer the attraction grows nearer
And yet with every word and every kindly letter
I always believe she deserves so much better
Why is there an attraction to the mess that is me?
Perhaps there are waters that run deeper than I can see
I resemble a fine-tuned piano without the keys
Or maybe a rusted violin without the strings
And while I always appear to be shredding at the seams
None of this matters in her mind apparently

Once when I was walking I saw the most beautiful sight
A moonlit city all covered in white
The glow of orange streetlights which reflected above
Made me halt and ponder the ones that I love
Even above the city lights the stars did shine
A picture perfect moment suspended in time
I took more steps and left footprints in snow
Delicate powder controlled by wind's blow
But when I stopped I saw the funniest thing
A shadow beside me was starting to sing
The voice was raspy yet sounded so sweet
The most pleasant pitch carrying such a beat
And to my ears this sound was such a treat
That I could not resist the urge to gre

To be forgotten; to be left alone
To have seen so many people come and go
To be unable to recognize his own home
To want to wander when there is nowhere to roam

To cherish every memory that he can
To have lost the race before it began
To have such a longing for the past
To wish that certain moments would always last

To never know what it feels like to be alive
To always leaving as soon as he arrives
To watch the streets change before his eyes
To never have gotten used to saying goodbye

To appreciate every puff of a cigar
To take in the beauty of waves crashing and strums of a guitar

I don't know where I came from
I'm not talking about birth
I'm referring to those times
Before humans walked the earth

What were we before then?
Is there truth to claim?
Was it planned or random chance
I hold my name today?

What kind of power
Created the extremes?
The planets and their moons
And everything inbetween

Why do I come across
The people that I greet?
Is it just by pure luck
Or fate and destiny

Why do old friends exit?
Why do new friends enter?
Our lives are merry-go-rounds
And we're stuck at the center

Why my color skin?

You know that one friend
Who you cordially invite
Who eats all your food
And ruins the night?
That one friend you hate
But you can't resist

How can I be pregnant?
I'm not a girl; I'm a guy!

Why would you think that?
Why would you fib
About people you don't know
Or things you never did?

She cheated on him

I don't know where to begin

So what if you never
Got asked out to the prom?
It only lasts one night
Then life will carry on

Every week there's someone
Fighting with a friend
Who hates who this week?
Please let this drama end

Because I'll never understand
Why people have to judge
Adding insult to injury
To hearts that never budge

She told him "no" many instances before
At first he listened, but not this time
Her words were sounds that he ignored
Because finally, he crossed the line

At first it seemed like every date
He was sweet and kind, holding doors
But even still at any rate
She found herself screaming on the bedroom floor

Because he heard, but didn't listen
Only hearing what he wanted to hear
And by pure hormones he was driven
While her pleas fell on deaf's ears

At first it started out innocent
Holding hands, kissing, locking lips
But soon it was no longer ambivalent
Once his hands swayed around her hips

A lifeless, cold, deserted man

Despite trying to do the best we can

All these sights and sounds

So meaningless at the core

And as I look around

The more my eyes are sore

Life feels silent without her voice

Yet everything makes noise

To be with her is my only choice

And yet sometimes I lose my poise

Back on track I can't look back

To nights cursing at my pain

Back on pace the sky turns black

That blood has already been drained

To keep trekking ahead

Is all we really know

Like the snow that has a sled

There's only one direction to go

Sure we can close our eyes

"Reason To Believe"

I long for hope that burns inside of me
Because there are so many things that I've never seen
So many places that I've never been
So much beauty that has yet to begin

This hope I long for that burns inside of me
Is the means and reason for me to believe
In all the things I've known and everything I have
For things can never really be that bad.

This hope I have is what pushes me forward
Slightly northward and around the corner
Its what gets me by each and every day
Because you never know what tomorrow may convey

You never really know what the future holds
Some days are bronze while others are gold
You never really know what tomorrow brings
Every darkened Winter will have a bright day in Spring

You never really know what new friends you'll meet
Or what old friends you fought with may come back and greet
The calendar repeats with all the same dates
But that doesn't mean you can't change your fate

We all hope for something; its what keeps us alive
Hope is the driving force that gets us to try
Hope for love, or money, or friends
Hope is what pushes us in the end

But without faith there is no hope
We put our hope in faith to help us cope
Whatever you believe in; believe in it still
Never lose faith nor sign off your will

Faith is like love; you can't see it, but it's there
You can't touch it, taste it, smell it, but you know it's in the air
You can only feel it deep inside your heart
You either believe or you don't, but not always from the start

And if you believe in nothing, there's still something to be said
At least you are living and those thoughts are in your head
If a lack of faith in something is still enough to get you by
Then don't deny there's nothing because that nothing makes you try

I can feel the emotion throughout this poem, and it it intense. It makes me sit back and think about all the times that I still felt hope, even when the world seemed dark and bleak all around me.

Believing in something is very important. That part spoke to me in more ways than one. To be honest, I am not a religious person, but faith can be more than just religion. As it says in the poem, it gives you a reason to go on and to have faith is to have hopes for something greater, even if you can't see it you know it's there.

This was an inspirational, beautiful poem that strives to give you a reason to believe and to have faith in something, anything. It's right when it says 'And if you believe in nothing, there's still something to be said'. Even if you don't have something to believe in, other people will.

I really liked your poem, I can till you really mean what you say, and you took your time writing this.

You made this personal and I feel you tried to get to others with your words and that is a great thing to do, and your good at it.

You seem pretty good at writing, and you seem to get your point across to your readers and that's a good thing also.

I believe your work can touch others if they take time to read it and understand where your coming from. I wish you the best of luck at your writing, and I know you will grow.

"And if you believe in nothing," ..inexorable.. the antithesis of a position is always going to be tested by the mind; similarly,..without Faif, there is no 'ope... handy phrase, though I might say - and not jus' fer the sake of it - 'ope is like the palette used, faith is the fire that drives one to paint : I didn't notice Hope until it was gone, only then could I look out at the world as it really is. ..Other than which, the rhyming used in this is phenomenal, easiest poem to read all-the-way-through 'n a long time...big 'if' at the end, with enough double-negatives too... I do things because I can put some of my love into them, without introducing that element, then what good can I add to the world? If I don't have 'faith' in what I am asked to do, then what power on earth could make me do it - none. ..'cos these aren't just "thoughts", these are principles and they are how I unleash my Soul upon the world...(b'race yerself, swee'ar't)
