I tried reaching for the sky

But ended up on the ground

I could never reach that high

Therefore I'll see you around

But everywhere I go

Feels like black clouds are following me

Reaping what I sow

Mocking with its foul imagery

Striking on my parade everyday

Walking alone through pouring rain

Killing my light I have made

Swallowing my heart down the drain

Where I feel there's an endless hole

That everyone can see through

I started falling forever ago

And there's nothing I can do

Because everywhere I go

These black clouds keep following me

Reaping what I sow

Mocking with its foul imagery

Of broken bones and Fe

I am so terrified of what the future holds

Because all my life I've always been told

That as our stories continue to unfold

I might one day be left out in the cold

Imagine if it was raining in your space

And the key to your front door was misplaced

And so you trace and retrace but to your disgrace

The key is lost forever and that is the case

And the rain that was pouring starts to hail

And the birds that were soaring have set sail

They've flown away while I sit on the grass

And put my hand up to the wet dripping glass

I've always felt like I was seeing through

A stranger's eyes painted a painful blue

Do you believe in waiting for someone

Who you know you'll be with forever?

Do you compete to not be outdone

By the ones who always do better?

Do you have the perseverance to climb

Higher than the highest plains?

Can you lend an extra eye for the blind

Who accidentally boarded the wrong train?

Can you stand up for the ones who are

Being harassed by those with fail

To realize that life enough is hard

And so we should gather together and prevail?

Can you see beyond the hills?

The trees? The forests? The sky?

Can you find a way to muster the will

To lie to me with honest eyes?

Can you tell me your deepest secret

So it seems now yet again

God has placed you in my sight

Its time to discuss this my dear friend

I wonder if we'll make it out alive

We need to help each other

If we are going to survive

But I would rather cover

My ashamed face and hide

But here in this time and space

For this moment I won't run

Here we are now face to face

I will not be outdone

I can feel you glaring

Staring at my weakened heart

The one that's always tearing

And ripping it apart

But this has got to stop

No more of this resentment

I will come out on top

I will gain my contentment

You were always such a pain

Our thoughts often collided

At last I have accomplished the impossible

So glad I have relinquished the inevitable

Don't scamper trying to outrun the light

I have blown up the sun and all of its might

I blew it to bits, tiny fragments of stars

Scarring the skies from wherever you are

Tore it to shreds; an explosion so loud

Darkness is the aftermath of what will be found

No more heat to beat down on your fragile necks

No more sweat to wet your beautiful heads

The sun makes me angry, can't you tell by this rhyme?

Agitated and irritated and often very blind

I can get vitamins from the store that rests on my corner

And honor the moonlight from

The colors that we use

To give our world such power

Maybe I'll dim the hue

Or add yellow to these flowers

Clouds so fluffy white

Have been added to this sketch

The sun is shining bright

A new canvas I must fetch

For a world without color

Must be such a boring place

No vibrancy can hover

In that lonesome space

I'll paint wherever my brush

Decides to hover along

With a light or heavy touch

To a calm or chaotic song

I'll paint your streets and walls

And add color to your town

I'll splash a mural in your hall

Until more color can be found

I'll paint for you a sunset

On a lonesome bay

And then for you I'll

After a long, draining day

Where I'm at a loss of words to say

Or describe how I feel

I use my covers to conceal

In my bed I love to crawl

And curl into a ball

My suffering and pain

Disappears from my brain

I cover myself and die

Or at least it feels in my mind

That I've found a place to rest

The best place to nest

My blanket is my shield

That nurtures me and heals

I squeeze my pillows tight

And grip them through the night

The world outside around me

Vanishes from my body

Underneath my covers

And the ones that hover

Under blankets I forget

All that I regret

My one place I'm saved

Hiding in my cave

I have secrets built up I just can not tell

Locked forever in my heart are where they will dwell

Though there are some to you I may one day share

I doubt many in the end would ever really care

Secrets about the world, philosophy, and stars

Secrets that will ignite flames in the dark

Secrets that will move oceans across lands

Secrets about God and the common man

So sometimes at night I talk to myself

Sharing feelings only I could have felt

Self-reflection helps me to heal

Because only I understand the way that I feel

We all have these secrets; some bigger than others

Some we share with friends and some with our mothers

A Night Like Any Other"A Night Like Any Other"

It was a night just like any other

That night when I was watching my brother

Stumbling down the halls and chairs

Creaking up the hardwood stairs

The rain was crashing like water in a sink

The thunder boomed louder than I could think

I noticed in his hand a bag full of trash

That contained treasures to one lacking cash

But the one thing I saw I could not ignore

Blood was dripping onto the hardwood floors

He laid the bag down onto his bed

And went on ahead to shower instead

Of cleaning the blood from off of the floor

The one thing I saw I could not ignore

In the darkness I went and snuck into his room

I've tried to count the ways

Of why I love her on a flower

In the summer haze

Losing petals every hour

There is just so much to say

A dandelion does not suffice

To wish away these days

Until we are under lights

And in my summer garden

And the beauty that it grows

If I beg your pardon

I must cultivate a rose

A symbol of my love

That my heart just cant contain

Just like the turtle doves

Or rainbows after rain

All these pretty sights

Remind myself of her

Just like the evening sky

Or a cat that calmly purrs

As gentle as the breeze

That blows past my face

If I could I'd freeze

All of time and space

So we can

There was nothing anyone could do or say

That was going to make her stew or stay

She was determined then to run away

On that cold and dreadful Autumn day

She packed her bags and left the house

Quiet as a careful mouse

She knew just what she had to do

She knew that she would see things through

Her parents were mean the previous night

They had with her another terrible fight

They threatened to throw her out in the street

They'll never understand the way she thinks

Feeding her self-doubt as she pouts in her room

She knows the next day this will only just resume

So she finally decide to take control of the wheel

Death may be upon my whimpering cries

I lay here caught despite struggling to try

My hind legs swelled up and my tail feels numb

A lone wolf captured in webs now spun

Or more like a bear trap to be more precise

Sliced in between my hind legs spliced

Together into the teeth of the jaws of death

A lone wolf rejected to be anybody's pet

As tears pour out I see from a distance

A figure locked onto my bitter persistence

But I can't escape like a meal on a plate

To be eaten by a family with a number of eight

Or maybe he'll leave me as my body takes its toll

And save me for a stronger creature to swallow me whole

I pulled up to a truck stop on the side of the road

Or at least that's what I remember being told

And as the morning unfolded I saw within view

The sunrise climb higher upon this quiet avenue

I could almost feel the regret of sin building within

I knew I should have stopped that before it could begin

But I must inform sadly I had lost control

I gave her my trust and her purity I stole

I was not ready to be the father of a baby boy

In fact I had planned on moving to the state of Illinois

What annoys me now is how life can change within hours

Or seconds with mistakes that devour my power

But she was grazing me with he

Two years ago

To this very day

I prayed for your soul

I prayed for your safety

Now two years have passed

And alas I sit here alone

My prayers could not amass

Enough to save this home

We have all lost someone

Very close to us

This trauma makes me numb

These feelings break my heart

Forever in my mind

Is where you now rest

I can't turn back time

Memories are all I have left

And the worst of it all

I never said goodbye

I never thought you'd fall

I never thought you'd die

In the back of my mind

I should have realized soon

But I chose to be blind

And now I stare at the moon

And picture your face

Listen to those tales

Gallant works of fiction

Buried scriptures hail

From our benedictions

They write the words they follow

Too tough to chew or swallow

Too broke to beg or borrow

So in pain they wallow

Often out of place

Like a miscast in a play

But in no way or case

Are they any less astray

The requiems they sing

In a massive, lonely choir

In hopes with joy they bring

And release straits so dire

But they're tired and in somber

Their hymns have grown quiet

In fortitude they wander

Onwards towards the riots

But who will calm them now?

Like thundering in a war

If only they could vow

And follow what they swore

A girl only sixteen on the corner for sale

Would rather sell herself than end up in jail

Kicked out of the only place she could call home

Now she has nowhere to call her own

And as she slips into her chamber's bed

She is forced to believe the lies she is fed

About life and health and random things

She even questions what her life may bring

A punished life left out of her possession

Her problems exist as her primary obsessions

And when they tell her there is a cure for her disease

Of course she will believe them without disbelief

The wolves learn to live without a pride

They bear their teeth and travel in strides

Locked deep inside caverns and caves

The wolves hide but are ready to give chase

Sneaking up on prey before they leap

They attack quietly before they reap

A surreal feeling to be part of their crowd

Wolves attack in packs in order to allow

Fear in helpless creatures that cower in fear

O how their devoured blood does smear

Lost in themselves and crying for help

These poor creatures can't even yelp

Just newly born and already afraid

The bodies of these creatures are quickly going to decay

An unfair balance of power if you were to ask me

How does it feel

With your head out in the clouds?

These must be lonely ideals

But soon you'll be coming down

You will have them all

Eating right out of your hands

But soon you will crawl

Because that's how tragedies end

What has become of my friends?

So sad to see them change

Something deep inside of them

Is obviously to blame

And when their iron masks

Finally hit the ground

I will be there to ask

What does their conscious tell them now?

Now that the fires have traveled far

And our friends will not be around

Carefully lock away your scars

Before you slowly drown

And when the tides have turned

And here I sit once again

A lifeless, cold, deserted man

Despite trying to do the best we can

There will be things in life I'll never understand

I think I'll change into a humble soul

And just take events like the wind blows

Still its very hard of me to simply just let go

I've lost more people in my life than you can ever know

Faces that I never thought would change

And memories I never thought would fade

I long for things to remain the same

To take snapshots of people and put them in frames

Stability is something that is out of our control

O how these lessons in life are oh so very droll

Frail, fragile, and lost in time

Even if we're lost the stars will still align

So take my hand and run as fast as you may

Away from violent skies now turning grey

Our quiet hearts suddenly beat so loud

And the last remaining light flickers out

Explosions behind us rip apart concrete

And the world behind us falls beneath our feet

Chaos ensues as the ground disappears

Water fills lungs of those who now stumble in tears

Be conscious for we need you here

Nothing lasts forever except prolonged fear

There's only one way now to escape

As we head towards the clouds now taking shape

The higher we fly the more we lea

As we see the train running around the bend

It is time for us to depart our separate ways

We will live to tell the tale of other days

Your stature departs into the setting sun

Shadows of a smile I can compare next to none

The smoke from engines leaves me in a foggy haze

Caught in the middle of a dream-like maze

And with a mumble and then a groan

I've drifted off somewhere alone

The lights are on but no one is home

The best path to take is never shown

Always laid before us are pieces of strands

Containing broken paths to different lands

"Make Someone's Day"

One day I was waiting for the bus

On a hot afternoon observing drivers cuss

At each other in lanes driving so insane

Screaming at each other and pointing the blame

When I boarded the bus and paid for my fare

Everyone was staring as if I wasn't there

I sat in a seat next to a kid who would weep

For his mom screamed at him because he wouldn't sleep

I sat there and stared at these people so bare

And lifeless inside and so unaware

Of the stories they are missing that they could have shared

If they weren't so quiet and had not a care

So I turned to the lady with the son who was loud

And told her that she should be very proud

Of the cute joy she has that made me so glad

To break the silence and share what I had

She told me her story and then I told her

As her kid purred on my arm as if I had fur

You can sleep well and breathe easy tonight

Knowing everything will be all right

Knowing the children are tucked in their beds

Dreaming of spaceships gliding in their heads

You can wake up after feeling sweet and brisk

Ready to take on any challenge or risk

Knowing you will be whisked away by the morning's breeze

Daydreaming the ride as you enter the keys

To the car you parked in your driveway's port

Sort of to the left of the basketball court

You set up for your son so he could have fun

And play outside in the evening until dinner is done

These perfect little lives in this perfect little scene

I won't pretend to understand what it means

Because everybody has their own problems

But your strength grows as you solve them

A stranger's tale can hail wonderful imagery

Sugar-coated or not they make amazing stories

Its what makes us human and not afraid to walk outside

Its what makes us share the stories of our lives

And as our planets rotate through the universe

Someone out there may have been given a curse

But needs to let out the emotions within

But is too scared to look beyond his hollow house of skin

So next time you see a stranger coming around the bend

Why not say something; we are all looking for friends

For there is nothing too little or minor you can say

A simple hello could make someone's day

Its funny because over the past few months I have been trying to make my life better (as it is only me who is actually making it bad really!) and I read this and think.. wow, this is exactly what I've been thinking.. being kind and sort of appreciating everything that is there, no matter how small or big.
